In recent years, substantial resources have been invested in researching or describing the enactment of core practices in teacher education. This review of literature explored 40 articles published between 2008-2017 in an effort to determine how teacher educators are supporting teacher candidates to learn about and enact core practices of teaching. The literature review exhibited two distinct approaches that teacher educators use to bound core practices for teacher candidates. The authors emphasize the need for clarity of language as the field moves forward, distinctions that will be achieved by transparent reporting of teacher education practice and concurrent empirical investigations into the results of such practice.
