Assessing Change in Instructional Leadership Development in Cross-Sector Preschool Contexts

Abstract

Little is understood about the kind of professional development ECE leaders require to support staff development. The present study reports findings from the implementation and outcome studies within a three-year evaluation of an ambitious, job-embedded professional development model for instructional leaders within cross sector preschool contexts, funded through the federal Race to the Top Early Learning Challenge grant program. The model purveyor implemented with fidelity, but the participants did not respond to the core components as intended. Analysis further indicated that ECE leaders across all sectors allocated little time to instructional leadership matters. As such, there is much to be understood about the professional supports ECE leaders need to more effectively organize
