Faces of Persistence: Engineering Photographic Narratives as Art

Mon, April 16, 8:15 to 9:45am, New York Marriott Marquis, Floor: Fifth Floor, Westside Ballroom Salon 3

Abstract

In this study, I demonstrate my own duality as researcher and artist. As an engineering educator, it is my desire to integrate artistic inquiry as a form of qualitative research to articulate the lived experiences of underrepresented students navigating engineering. This study seeks to use photographic narrative as both methodology and method to capture story and eternalize experience. This visual-based narrative inquiry will add to the visual literacy surrounding race, gender and class issues in engineering education.
