Commitment relates closely to teacher turnover, retention, performance, and even well-being. There exist quite a few conceptual models which can be used to illustrate inservice teacher commitment. However, the first conceptual model on preservice teacher commitment has yet to be proposed. The theoretical gap results in a serious lack of a comprehensive and deep understanding about preservice teacher commitment. Inspired by Locke’s (1997) Work Motivation Process Model, this paper presents a Preservice Teacher Commitment model which serves to answer the following questions: (1) What is the nature of preservice teacher commitment? (2) What factors influence its development and how? (3) What consequences does it render?
