In this study, we set out to validate the overall evaluation ratings, within a single year cycle, that result from a district’s multiple measures teacher evaluation system (MMES). To do this, we compare sources of data internal to the MMES itself, as well as external sources of student achievement data. We situate the need for this analysis within the historical and political conditions surrounding present day use of MMESs in public education. We conclude by offering up potential implications this MMES may have in the broader context of a large district’s need to make human capital and professional development decisions based on reliable and accurate sources of teacher practice data.
