Research regarding pre-service teachers often overlook the impact critical race dialogue has on the people of color who participate. This study presents case study findings from an intergroup dialogue course on race and ethnicity in a teacher education program at a predominately white institution, and the impact the dialogue had on participants of color. This study looks at qualitative data which include interviews, weekly reflections, and recorded dialogue sessions. Findings suggest that people of color are uniquely impacted by engaging in race dialogue as they willingly take on the responsibility of sharing their perspectives—counter-narratives for the benefits of Whites to develop racial consciousness.
