Missing Voices: Parents in a Professional Development School

Sat, April 14, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Millennium Broadway New York Times Square, Floor: Fifth Floor, Room 5.02

Abstract

This study marks a beginning step towards understanding parent perspectives on professional development schools (PDS) by attempting to answer the questions: In what ways do families in a PDS interact with the school’s university partner? What impact on student learning, if any, do families attribute to the partnership? How do families perceive the partnership as impacting the status of their child’s school? Survey responses and focus group interviews explore the insights of families whose children attend a preschool and K-8 school which are recognized as professional development schools.
