Given the challenges in creating a positive school climate and the need to consider a school as a work environment for teachers, this quantitative research study explores teachers’ perceptions of their work environment through four lenses: care, connection, community, and choice. Sixty-nine teachers at a high school in California were surveyed. Results describe the responses of teachers based on these four lenses, as well as t-test analyses, correlation analyses, and multiple regression analyses that show connections between the four lenses and other aspects of the work environment. Implications relate to considerations in measuring school climate beyond student measures, thus promoting reform efforts.
