The Ontario Leadership Framework (OLF) is intended to guide the preparation and development of school and system-level leaders throughout Ontario’s publicly-funded education system. Despite evidence indicating that the OLF is largely aligned with the work of contemporary principals, little is known about whether the OLF accurately represents vice-principals work. This paper is designed to explore whether the OLF is aligned with vice-principals’ work, and if it is appropriate for preparing aspiring leaders for the role. The findings indicate that vice-principals are familiar with the OLF, but that only half of them feel it reflects their daily work. Respondents indicated that the OLF lacks practices surrounding student discipline, mental health, work-life balance and the unique needs of teaching vice-principals.
