Culture and Academic Motivation: A Review and Forecast of Theories and Methodologies

Abstract

The recent advances in methodologies and in conceptualizations of motivation and the renewed focus on understanding the motivation of the diverse student body within classrooms and schools makes this an exciting time in motivation science. In this paper, we will review the variety of methodologies that have been used to understand student motivation and forecast the conceptual and methodological approaches that will be employed to create a deeper understanding of the intersection of motivation and culture among students.
