Learning From Singapore: The Paradox of Well-Being

Mon, April 16, 12:25 to 1:55pm, New York Hilton Midtown, Floor: Second Floor, Gramercy Room East

Abstract

Student well-being is a very important issue in education. But it is usually focused on the needs of under-privileged children, giving children less stress or allowing children to play. These are of course very important issues, but student well-being is a more holistic concept than those concerns. The dominant themes of discourse have developed mainly because of concerns in the education systems of Western societies. This presentation presents an alternative view of student well-being from an Eastern perspective, drawing from the experiences of Singapore regarding this notion.
