Session Type: Symposium
The objective of this symposium is to carefully consider the enormous potential of family, school, and community partnerships as mechanisms to build equitable, coherent, and strong pathways for student learning in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) across school and community settings. Research points to family engagement as one of the most important predictors of student and life success. However, many schools and community organizations do not engage families meaningfully in their STEM practices and STEM instruction is different than what was offered when most adults were in school. This interactive symposium will explore the latest research on family engagement in STEM and provide data on cutting-edge approaches and policies that support engagement.
