Session Type: Symposium
It is commonly assumed that that schooling plays a critical role in writing development, but we know surprisingly little about how writing is taught worldwide. The current Session addresses this problem, by presenting studies examining writing instruction on three different continents. One presentation examines how writing was taught in Dutch primary schools and used this information to test an experimental writing program. A second presentation examined writing instruction in Belgium and also examined the effectiveness of maximizing instruction in Belgium schools. The third presentation examined instruction in Chinese urban schools, whereas the fourth presentation examined writing instruction in schools in Chile.
