Session Type: Symposium
Although frequently studied as such, learning is not isolated in single and dedicated educational contexts. This particularly yields for interest-based learning that can involve systematic interest pursuits of students across school, home, peers and leisure. Whereas we can assume interests to move across contexts on a daily basis, we still have very little understanding of how this occurs. This insight is even more urgent given the increasing collaborations and partnerships across institutions to support life-wide learning ecologies, often by centering on students’ personal interests. Presented papers examine how interests may move across contexts, naturally and in designed settings, concluding with a discussion about the theoretical value as well as conceptual and methodological challenges in taking an across-context perspective on interest-based learning.
