Session Type: Symposium
This symposium will address impactful teacher education research and practices that are necessary to promote a globally and inter-culturally competent teaching workforce. A comprehensive literature review addressing best practices in design and assessment of teacher education study abroad programs will frame this interactive discussion-based symposium. Following, we will explore how cross-cultural experiences facilitate the development of social justice mindsets. Next, we will address arts-based and narrative tools for investigating experiences of intercultural teaching and learning. Lastly, we will examine how border pedagogies complicate the internationalization of teacher education, specifically through the voices of Latina teachers from the US-Mexico border. The overall aim of this symposium is to advance the discourse underpinning global and cultural lenses on teaching and teacher preparation.
