Session Type: Symposium
This symposium presents results from an international collaboration between researchers in the US and Finland to develop and test project-based instructional units for high school chemistry and physics teachers. Through a design process that includes teachers and researchers from both countries, we have developed six units aimed at increasing engagement in science by building optimal learning environments. Using the experience sampling method, we test the effects of students’ situational social and emotional experiences on outcomes such as creativity, engagement, and importance to self and future. Results also show that the collaborative environment of research and development has many benefits, but also presents challenges for both teachers and researchers.
