Session Type: Symposium
This symposium will feature reports from a large-scale study of factors influencing early-career teachers (ECTs)’ elementary mathematics instruction. The studies featured were conducted as part of a large-scale project involving collection of both quantitative and qualitative data from approximately 150 ECTs within their first four years of teaching, in either urban or suburban districts across three Midwestern states. In addition to sharing findings about characteristics and quality of ECTs’ mathematics instruction, the studies presented will shed light on how ECTs engage with resources such as the expertise of school-based colleagues as well as social media to inform their planning and enactment of mathematics instruction.
