Session Type: Symposium
Education that celebrates cultural diversity is a taken for granted assumption of liberal democracies with potential to create a vibrant multiculturalism. Yet in the current international environment voices of hatred and fear threaten this value.
This session will review how education for cultural diversity is faring in different national contexts and the forces that are at work either to promote or impede a liberal critical vision of such education. It will bring together a panel of experts from Europe, Asia, Australia and the United States to share local experiences and point the way forward to more tolerant and just societies.
