Session Type: Roundtable Session
This session examines the value of theory for understanding, evaluating, and guiding instructional coaching. This is accomplished by the exploration of coaching from five distinct theoretical perspectives: Critical sociocultural, Deleuzoguattarian, critical leadership, positioning theory and critical discourse analysis, and sociocultural/poststructuralist. Each of these presentations draws on empirical data of instructional coaching programs to demonstrate the value of these theoretical perspectives as well as illustrate key theoretical concepts. Juxtaposed, these perspectives offer insight into the role of theory in guiding professional development, and provide a foundation for a conversation about the connections between coaching and theory moving forward.
