Session Type: Roundtable Session
This symposium focuses on three settings—public school classrooms, public libraries, and community-based organizations--that are recognized for effectively using digital media creation to promote youth engagement in learning. The papers examine the complex features and possibilities of these diverse settings, highlighting confluences between educational technology and social justice in both the processes and products of youth creating digital media. Recognizing that youth already use digital tools to “write for social change” (Haddix, Everson, & Hodge, 2015), this symposium asks questions about how these settings supported experiences of critique and collective production, and afforded opportunities to imagine and write different futures, to improvise, and to revise.
