Disrupting Hegemonic Quantitative Practice

Abstract

Hegemonic research practices continue to distance quantitative researchers from many of the realities that minoritized students face on today’s college campuses, leading to findings that may not be sufficiently complete, accurate, or useful. This symposium will problematize several research designs and analytic choices associated with the study of college and its impact on students. Specifically, it will explore relevant issues by identifying the problems that exist within quantitative research approaches, ascribing language to these problems, and offering insights into possible ways of managing them. These presentations will delve into various stages throughout the research process from design to measurement to analyses to results. Ample time will be provided to engage in conversation with audience members.
