Session Type: Symposium
This symposium focuses on how district and state policies related to principal professional development and evaluation are related to school leadership practices. There is widespread agreement among researchers, policymakers, and practitioners that principals play a critical role in providing high-quality education to PK-12 students, but relatively little research has examined how principal development or evaluation is related to school leadership practices. Identifying relationships between district policies and principal practices is critically important for supporting the development of high-performing school leaders, and through this, for elevating the quality of education students receive in U.S. public schools. Therefore, this symposium will bring together scholars involved in projects focused on district and state policies, principal development, and enactment of effective leadership practices.
