Session Type: Symposium
This session explores new perspectives in the history of campus life in the United States. It examines students who have not always been prominent in the history of college life as well as institutions that have not always been the focus of research in higher education. This session embraces the 2018 AERA meeting theme of “Dreams, Possibilities, and Necessity of Public Education,” by exploring how different students at different periods and on different campuses—predominantly public colleges and universities—experienced higher education, what they wanted from it, what they focused on, how they built their experiences and, through that, how they established a collective campus student life.
