Session Type: Symposium
This symposium highlights the work of radical educators seeking to reinvent and reimagine education within various contexts using the theories and methodologies of Paulo Freire. As Freire provided a framework for educators to conceptualize and enact humanizing pedagogies in their work, the papers within this session explore contemporary interpretations that reinvent Freire’s work. All four papers seek to answer questions related to Freire’s problem-posing approach including: What does it mean to work alongside youth in their quest for liberation? What role do educators play in facilitating the investigation of lived realities? How can education, rooted in praxis, facilitate love, care, and freedom?
