Difference and Dissidence: Im(Possibilities) Within the Neoliberal and Imperial Educational Complex

Abstract

This session problematizes the affirmation and institutionalization of difference by critically examining (1) the tactics and logics of difference in the neoliberal and imperial educational complex; (2) the limits of conventional understandings of and engagements with difference; and (3) the creative relational analytics that take seriously domains of power, historical legacies, and material effects. The perspectives in this session span different educational contexts from teacher preparation in the United States to farmer education in the Global South and highlight different positionalities. These perspectives will posit compelling rejoinders to the precarity and violence inflicted by the false promises and palatable sentiments of difference in the contemporary neoliberal era.
