Once referred to as vocational education, CTE in the 21st century reflects both traditional trades as well as new areas of high growth like health services, information technology, and advanced manufacturing. Many of these newer pathways align with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) focused fields, which often have expectations for some postsecondary training. In this panel, we explore how a variety of CTE offerings in high school facilitate student pathways in CTE with a connection to STEM-related pathways. Together, the papers in this panel reveal insights into who participates in different CTE pathways in high school, whether and where they transition into postsecondary education, and what differences exist in participation based on student family income, race, and gender.
