Each year the majority of community college students are deemed academically underprepared for college level work. Traditionally, preparation for college-level courses has occurred via remedial courses. Yet, fewer than one-third of these students complete their remedial requirements within six years. Subsequently, researchers and practitioners are seeking effective ways to get students to and through their college level coursework. This panel explores an intensive pre-matriculation program developed by the City University of New York which aims to help students become college ready in just one semester, an innovative alternative to the traditional multi semester remedial course sequences.
