Session Type: Symposium
Academic SRL processes are essential for life-long learning. Yet high school represents a period of less academic environmental structure along with increased coursework, homework, and responsibility (Zimmerman, 2002). Once students graduate high school, they make important decisions about college and careers. Colleges base admission decisions on a number of criteria, one of which is grade point averages on “five” academic subjects: English, mathematics, science, social studies, and foreign language. This symposium will present case studies: authentic lessons on the five academic subjects, and scholars’ descriptive analyses of the lessons grounded on empirical research on SRL. The overall objective is to provide examples of how outstanding high school teachers use SRL processes in content areas as identified by prominent educational psychologists.
