Session Type: Symposium
In response to the 2018 AERA conference call for researchers and practitioners “to make possible what often seems impossible,” this session examines research projects that intertwine equity and assessment, a process that may seem impossible due to stereotypes affiliated with assessment. Traditional institutional approaches tend to position assessment as reductive checking-the-box activities required for accreditation, as opposed to more expansive institutional approaches where assessment is a cohesive, collaborative experience (Suskie, 2009). To disrupt this narrative, our session highlights research that infuses equity with assessment, which occurs when we create spaces for reflection and (re)imagine transformative approaches toward learning.
