Session Type: Symposium
In recent years, questions about the participatory nature of design research have come to the fore in the Learning Sciences. Specifically scholars are critically reflecting on the knowledge produced in design projects that do not interrogate the forms of participation and social relations across researchers, practitioners and communities (Gutiérrez & Penuel, 2014; Esmonde & Booker, 2016). This collection of presentations uses ethnographic analysis of processes of partnering to unearth and make more transparent the improvisational and locally instantiated routines that expand our methods for developing equitable partnerships. Collectively, the session will consider how these local innovations contribute to our understandings of learning and processes of partnering within PDR, as well as implications for methodological training in the Learning Sciences.
