Session Type: Symposium
Translational research (TR) is a cornerstone to evidence-based practice and improvement science across disciplines. Mixed methods research that meaningfully integrates qualitative stakeholder engagement methods with quantitative outcome-based oriented approaches provides a rigorous methodological foundation for TR. The purpose of this symposium session is to discuss theoretical and procedural premises of using mixed methods in TR and to illustrate such applications based on empirical examples from different disciplines using multilevel perspectives, and national and international contexts. The symposium will include four presentations discussing methodological and decision-making processes underlying the use of mixed methods in TR. The session will conclude with the discussion among the panelists and audience about the goals, advantages and challenges of using mixed methods in TR.
