Session Summary

Then and Now: The Futures of DACA-Protected Youth on Precarious Ground

Fri, April 13, 4:05 to 5:35pm, New York Hilton Midtown, Floor: Third Floor, Americas Hall 1-2 - Exhibit Hall

Session Type: Poster Session

Abstract

From 2012 to 2016, numerous studies recorded the positive effects of DACA on its beneficiaries, such as increases in income, career prospects, and higher educational goals and attainment. One hundred days into his 2017 administration, President Trump has not touched DACA, but its recipients, some whom have benefited from the program for more than four years, are now facing an uncertain future since they stand to lose gains made. This poster session is designed to provide the findings of a qualitative study that sought to explore the experiences of DACA-protected youth as they face an uncertain future in an anti-immigrant national reality.
