Session Type: Invited Speaker Session
Since the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act—named the Every Student Succeeds Act—in 2015, the United States has undergone rapid political change. The Trump Administration, along with Betsy DeVos as Secretary of the Department of Education, have shifted which education policy agendas have priority, and are now tasked with implementing ESSA. This session brings together researchers and scholars to discuss the ways in which American education has changed since the reauthorization of ESEA—how is ESSA different from No Child Left Behind? How does its implementation differ from its original goals? The session will also discuss where education policy is moving under the DeVos administration and how it has been affected by the larger policy landscape.
