Voices of Music Cooperating Teachers' Regarding the University-Student Teaching Partnership

Abstract

This study examined three experienced music co-operating teachers’ perceptions of the University-student teaching partnership. Data included two focus groups interviews, three individual interviews and an email log of all study interactions. Findings are presented in the following categories: (a) seeking greater collaboration; (b) desire a developmental sequence for what is “typical” for teacher education students; (c) interest in being more aware of the content and processes within the specific teacher education programs; (d) recognition of the unique learning opportunities within the student teaching experience and the teacher preparation program; (e) length and schedule of internship; (f) need for more field experiences in general and in diverse settings more specifically; and (g) more preparation for supervisors/observers.
