This study sought to better understand the reasons behind the dramatic increase in autism prevalence in public schools in the United States. The cause of autism was not a part of this study. The authors gathered the single largest dataset yet analyzed on the topic of autism prevalence, including children and youth 5 years to 22 years of age over a 17 year period. The study analyzes national data along with six individual states across the country, to both affirm the national data and detect state-specific anomalies that are otherwise hidden in a national-only analysis.
