In the current political climate, teacher educators play a significant role in shaping the future of democratic educators. This exploratory case study’ findings suggest teacher educators in this study pay special attention to prospective teachers’ pedagogic discourse, pedagogical content knowledge, and mentoring prior to their transition to schools. The participating faculty members find themselves in a challenging position of negotiating the dual identities of teacher educators and mentors. Most faculty see themselves as agents facilitating preservice teachers grow into their role as teachers in order to create a place for themselves in schools.
