From Placements to Partnerships: The State of Clinical Practice and Preparation

Abstract

Our research findings present the practices of educator preparation programs at 8 institutions of higher education gleaned from a statewide survey.  Results from this qualitative study indicate that educator preparation programs in our state are shifting from a placement approach for clinical experiences to a partnership approach. Additionally, this paper describes the local policy context, including the state’s strategic alignment of several reform efforts, and presents a conceptual framework for clinical practice and partnerships developed by a statewide network of institutions of higher education (IHEs).
