Abstract

The current study aimed at fostering academic vocabulary knowledge among Arabic native speaking middle-school pupils, developing an evidence-based teaching/learning model and supporting digital literacy skills. The current presentation will focus on presenting preliminary data from a conducted pilot study, evaluating academic vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension skills before and after the intervention program among 134 7th grade pupils, representing the different Arab subgroups in Israel. As such, curriculum-based instructional materials and assessment tests were developed. Additionally, teacher training program was carried. As revealed by the results, higher scores on the post-tests were obtained on assessed target measures when compared to pre-test. Additionally, the results revealed that improvement was modulated by subgroup and gender.
