Designing Technology to Support Multimodal Dialogue and Participation in a "Post-Truth" Era: The Talkwall Microblogging Tool

Abstract

The poster draws on educational insights into the role of dialogue for learning, and how to increase the quality of talk in classrooms in order to improve the way we design digital resources for learning.

We used design-based research for involving teachers in this work, and we explore a concept driven approach to improve the exchanges between theory, design, and practice.

The central research outcome is Talkwall, a microblogging service designed to take advantage of increasingly digitalized classrooms. Talkwall is a companion for teachers’ dialogic practice development.

Five bridging concepts emerged during the co-design and were key to understand issues of broad participation in the classroom, engagement in the classroom in the form of sharing and organizing developing ideas.
