The proposed performance is an exploration of the possibility of “audiecing” dance from a non-visual perspective. The piece is an expert and a reflection on th collaborative performance project Translation, which asks questions of ultimate importance and relevance to the accessibility of Dance Education and Canadian performing arts. Translation is based on questions of accessibility, inclusion and the potential of the dancing body to move us. In this article, I aim to explore questions as such: How might we translate a visual experience of dance into words and sensation? How can we “audiencing” dance from a non-visual perspective? How can dance be presented and taught in a way that is inviting to all bodies?
