The current study uses the Danielson Framework for Teaching as the basis for examining traditional and co-teaching student teaching models in terms of their value for preparing novice teachers for the field. We focus on the perceptions of cooperating teachers and college supervisors from two institutions’ teacher preparation programs as they are in a unique position to compare student teaching models they have experienced. While the co-teaching model may not as realistically simulate the first year of teaching, the survey and interview results indicate that the co-teaching model outperforms the traditional student teaching model on every component of the Danielson Framework. Specific results of the study, recommendations for teacher preparation and further study of student teaching are discussed.
