Abstract

When you surf online, your social media feed can devolve into an echo chamber. Regardless of the debate, commentary can be copied and pasted, stated and restated, amplified far beyond its humble provenance. As the hype builds around certain hot button topics, a consensus of opinion can emerge. Practices discussed online can become adopted in the offline world, often without a sufficient degree of critical examination regarding their merits.

One topic that is beginning to be shared online among educators is the idea of social media itself. Specifically, a great deal of discussion is emerging regarding the use of social media within the classroom. This conceptual/theoretical session discusses the benefits of integrating social media in classrooms.
