Subverting Knowledge Transfer Assumptions: Reflection Narratives From a Short-Term Study Abroad Trip to Ghana, West Africa

Sun, April 7, 3:40 to 5:10pm, Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, Floor: Lower Concourse, Grand Centre

Abstract

We offer condensed reflection-narratives on our learning through the Higher Education in the Ghanaian Context! program (HEGC!). Using the adinkra concepts of lifelong learning and sankofa, we subvert the assumption of the direction of knowledge transfer from the "Global North" to the "Global South." Through these reflection-narratives, we offer critical reflection as tools for engaging in educational research along with the theme of the American Educational Research Association conference by using these reflection narratives as evidence for questioning the transfer of knowledge.
