Abstract

This paper analyses the transitional experiences of a group of mothers of Colombian origin who emigrated from Latin America to the province of Ontario, Canada. This study identifies analytical themes and categories that characterize the experiences of a group of mothers of Colombian origin as they transitioned their children into elementary and secondary schools in a large urban centre in the province of Ontario, Canada.. It aims to critically inform the work of school boards, school leaders, and social service organizations interested in supporting the transition of these families into Canadian schools, and aims to advance a theoretical framework, based on the analytics of “transition”, “hybridities” and “interstice” (Bhabha, 1994), to investigate the experiences of immigrant families in Canadian schools
