Strong partnerships between high schools and colleges are essential for successful implementation of dual enrollment and the early college model. This paper uses an explanatory mixed methods design to investigate the two-year development of an early college partnership between K-12 districts and a large Midwestern community college. Annual survey results demonstrated a relatively low, yet significantly strengthened postsecondary partnership between schools and the college in Year 2. Qualitative analysis identified positive partnership themes of student support, perceived support for school staff, technical assistance, and increased flexibility. Areas for continued growth included continuing to build trust between institutions, improving communication, and streamlining processes and systems. The results offer a roadmap for institutions seeking to establish and sustain dual enrollment partnerships.
