Sun, April 7, 3:40 to 5:10pm, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 300 Level, Hall C

Abstract

This study explores family practices in young children’s science and sustainability learning. Research is designed based on a qualitative interpretive approach. Rich Go-Pro family videos, observations and simulated recall interviews shed light on the role of families in supporting young children’s learning. It reveals the Big 4 categories for key science and sustainability conceptual knowledge areas. Diverse cultural background offer diverse family practices thereby impacting how young children learn. The study argues for a reverse cycle flow whereby family practices support and inform Early Childhood Educators thereby providing deeper learning opportunities for young children.
