Postsecondary access inequities continue to persist in many highly segregated and underresourced urban school districts. This study examines the college-going culture of three urban public secondary schools, with attention to magnet and nonmagnet school differences. The authors utilize Corwin and Tierney’s (2007) college-going culture research to identify differences that exist across school-type along: academic momentum, understanding how college plans develop, clear mission statement, comprehensive college counseling services, and coordinated and systematic college support. This investigation associates college access disparities to public policies and school practices that continue to reproduce social inequities.
