Measuring Effective Teaching: Council for Accreditation and Education Preparation Indicator 4.2

Sun, April 7, 8:00 to 9:30am, Fairmont Royal York Hotel, Floor: Mezzanine Level, Confederation 6

Abstract

Recent national reform initiatives in the United States have been instituted to accreditate teacher education programs in an effort to improve the quality of teachers entering the field and, in turn, raise student achievement (e.g., Council for Accreditation and Educator Preparation (CAEP), 2013; National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), 2008). Despite this increasing focus on teacher preparation program quality, the impact of preparation programs on teacher effectiveness, and, by extension student learning, remains challenging to measure. This proposed presentation will share results from an ongoing effort to develop a tool to measure graduates’ impact on P-12 student learning as part of CAEP’s (2013) standard 4. Validation and reliability measures will be shared as part of this presentation.
