Validating a Grades 1–8 Student Survey Instrument to Evaluate Student Teachers

Mon, April 8, 4:10 to 5:40pm, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 700 Level, Room 712

Abstract

Researchers specified statistical methods to validate a student survey instrument that is intended to be used for evaluating student teacher performance. Drawing from students’ evaluations of their student teachers, taken from 1,454 students’ survey data in the elementary and middle school grades, researchers examined the reliability and validity of the survey instrument in need of validation. Researchers found somewhat weak evidence of reliability and validity, which indicates the survey instrument was not ready yet to be applied in evaluating student teacher performance. Researchers also evidence potential issues that this as well as other student teacher or survey instruments in general are likely to face and offer some specifications to check and improve the quality of such a survey instrument.
