Poster #6 - Mindkit: A Peer-Led Intervention to Develop Mental Well-Being in Young People

Sun, April 7, 8:00 to 9:30am, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 300 Level, Hall C

Abstract

Mindkit is a universal co-produced and peer-facilitated mental health intervention delivered to 18,233 young people during in-school sessions. Mindkit sessions focused on raising awareness about methods for improving resilience.

Sessions were co-produced with 140 young people, comprising six key components, including volunteer’s own personal stories and information about techniques to promote resilience.

Student feedback indicates sessions were associated with learning about mental health, and were positive about session delivery. Positive outcomes relating to developing confidence and re-defining their own narrative about mental health experiences were reported by volunteer trainers.

While Mindkit is one part of a larger toolbox of initiatives for schools, it offers an authentic voice about mental health that young people are able to understand and respect.
